This article shows how versatile laminated chipboard reclaimed from old ContiBoard furniture can be in making shelves and drawers around the home. My first choice of wood for making drawers, furniture and shelves is real wood, either hardwood like oak, softwoods like pine or even good quality plywood.
Refinishing old and worn furniture by yourself can save a lot of money compared to taking it to a professional; and if you enjoy DIY it can be a very fun and satisfying project too. If you are actively looking for new furniture, especially if you have just bought your first home and you’re short of money, tatty furniture you find for low prices at auctions, antique fairs, car boot sales etc. can be made to look like new with some TLC. You can also buy cheap new furniture and add your own unique twist onto it to make it unique. Before you have had practice with refinishing furniture though, it would be best to stay away from the antiques!
No problem at all. Provided, of course, all the required pieces are in the carton. It probably helps to have been raised, as I was, by a carpenter and/or to have actually built things with your own hands. Nice lens and well thought out designs. Re-purposing existent products and materials is not only cost effective but environmentally friendly. Thank you.
Installation of the cabinets is not rocket science, but it requires attention to detail, planning ahead, and ideally some help. Again, if you are a reasonably experienced handy-person you can do it, but it may take longer than you expect. Just installing and adjusting doors and drawer fronts on 20 cabinets once you have them fixed in place is a long project.
Replacements/Damages: Ask your retailer how stock outs, damages and replacements are handled. If you can’t get the cabinet when you need it, every other tradesman is held up (counters, tiles, plumbers, etc) which can cost you weeks in your project schedule. Conestoga’s program is build to order and allows for replacements to be shipped in as little as a day and because everything is built in the US, there is no issue with out of stock, etc. Furthermore, if you only need a shelf or a cabinet side, it is no problem. You don’t need to replace the whole cabinet. Just get what you need. Best of all, replacements are basically ‘no questions asked’.
