Though not originally from Never Never Land, I sure feel that’s where I live some days. Renovations always take longer than anticipated, cost more than was budgeted, involve more work than you bargained for, and can be fraught with challenges. Don’t you love that word – challenges – it just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it? Some days, not so much..but whether reno-ing a space or a hub, I am passionate about family, music, writing in all forms, and great food.
Here is a home improvement for working with contractors! If you are having work done, be sure to inform the head of the crew if you are not happy! In the ideal world, everyone would understand and do exactly what you want, the way you want it done! If that is not the case, speak to the head of the crew! You are paying the bills, and you are in charge. If you aren’t happy, speak up. If things don’t work out with that contractor, there are lots of others to choose from.
I was not impressed with the salesman that came for the quote. In fact I almost cancelled the project because I felt very uneasy about what I would be getting for my money. I also was not fully happy with the company that was hired to complete the project. Communication and timeline are my biggest complaints. HOWEVER, the installers that came to my home were wonderful and did beautiful work as well as listening to my concerns and adressing them. The final product was just what I wanted.
This subject brings back such fond memories of our first home where we had that ‘small bathroom challenge’. Loved IKEA store for reasonable, funky storage ‘thangs’, like your CD racks (so creative…) I perfectly agree that small can be beautiful and charming… I had selected the coolest black lab wallpaper (you really had to see it/ only worked in a very small area…) I also love green (plant/ life) in every bathroom and candles! Cool stuff, girlfriend!
