Kitchen Design & Feng Shui (2)

I’d convince myself that I needed a new home bar….right in the corner of my living room…it would look nice and I could be the bar maid and the paying customer too, it would be much fun like I owned a real bar or something!!

A dozen years ago, when I was a product development manager for a large cabinet component manufacturer, we used to talk about what affect China would have on kitchen cabinets. Many of us were naïve and considered it ludicrous that China would ever be able to mass produce and ship kitchens of such quality that US buyers would take them seriously. Plus, logistical nightmares such as replacement parts and ‘out of stock’ situations kept us feeling safe from the threat of imported cabinets. As time went on and we saw what was happening to the furniture industry, we realized how wrong we were and that it was only a matter of time before the US market was flooded with such cabinets.

When you want to remodel your bathroom , don’t think too big. Even if you don’t have a big budget, you can still make some dramatic changes, and make the remodel look like it cost a lot more than it really did. Get new toilet paper holders, light fixtures, mirrors, and towel bars. Make the room brighter with some paint. For a small price, your bathroom can be transformed into something new and fresh.

Some wonderful dark bathroom wall colors which work well with white or light fixtures are chocolate, black, deep purple, navy blue, hunter green, burgundy, crimson, and terracotta. Light colored or white accessories and towels will pop and look very sharp against the dark walls, or you can use contrasting or toning dark colors for a more subtle effect.

Another often overlooked, yet important detail, is grout and caulk. When this gets grimy, it gets unsightly. By simply cleaning the grout and adding straight, clean lines of caulk around the tub and sink, you can add sparkle for a mere few dollars. You might be surprised at what a difference this can make! Grout and caulk are both cheap, so this is a very inexpensive way to freshen up your bathroom.
