Just A Little Bathroom Remodel

I turned my attention to painting the new headboard that Ron had built for me as a Christmas present. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint, added a touch of dark finishing wax to the moldings and finished it off with the Annie Sloan wax. (did I mention that Joy ate the very expensive wax brush that I had splurged on???-I ended up using an old t-shirt instead and it worked just fine).

First, the contractor needs to make sure that he has enough money in the contract to cover mistakes, Now, I know what you’re thinking: They should pay for their own mistakes” and that’s true to a certain extent, but people aren’t perfect and they’ll make mistakes, so a businessman has to compensate for it. As a result, they mark up the material about 10 to 20 percent to cover for any little mistakes that may happen. They also …

Renovation

The first step to planning a bathroom remodel is evaluating the existing space. If you’re planning on updating or renovating an existing bathroom, what would you like to see improved? Do you want to update the look of the bathroom by changing details like lighting and mirrors, or are you interested in a major overhaul? Answering these question will help give you a clearer idea of what you want the finished product to look like.

Remodeling is an easier option that can save you money, by replacing whatever faucets and fixtures you don’t want with new ones of the same size or design. Gutting an existing bathroom to the studs and subfloor will give you the best opportunity to check all plumbing, wiring and heating; and upgrade as needed. Including, installing sub floor heating; special lighting in the shower area; or, even a towel warmer rack that keeps your towels …

The Sustainable Couple

Anyway we decided that we had better tear out everything and totally replace the subfloor… What a joke!

Chip away old tile, cut away wood rot and remove any moldy sheetrock. This is a fun way to put your trusty sledgehammer to use! You are most welcome, Enelle – They were really great about stopping to let me take photos as each step was completed. So, if you’re counting, we spent about $649 on 102 square feet of flooring, a vintage-looking pedestal sink and medicine cabinet, and two bistro pendant lights. Teeny cabinets are gone! Can you believe they were only 32 inches tall? The floor was protected as we were keeping the existing tile.

I do NOT recommend pine sol. Ive been using it for a year now and I dread washing the floors as it leaves spots and streaks. We are renting and I just had it on …

Decorating The Redneck Way

One of the biggest home renovation challenges can be creating space in a small, main bath where no space actually exists.

I am replacing 9 windows. 6 are 24×60 and 3 are 36 x 60. I was given a quote for Simonton 5100 from home depot for $4350 complete and Energex Advantage by Affinity for $4300. Do you know have a preferece between the two. I am seeing a 3rd company that sells Dove windows next so I don’t have any information yet. All windows will be low e and argon gas. They will also be double hung vinyl with grids. Thanks for any insight you might have.

Expanding foam insulation has about an R-7 value per square inch. The biggest gains arise from eliminated air flow. The R-value is calculated on the insulation only and does not consider air flow. You can apply foam insulation in any thickness. In some …

The bathroom was long and cramped, about 5′ wide by 11′ long, with the window facing out over the back of the house. The entrance was at the other end of the narrow room. The tub sat lengthwise in the center of one wall, a floor-to-ceiling sidewall at each end of it, and the attic access opposite. The toilet and sink sat almost facing each other in the window end of the room.

Much of what you decide to take on during your bathroom renovation work should depend on your future plans. If you plan on moving out of your home in the next five to seven years, a modest project that updates …

The 80’s Wants Their Bathroom Back Is Finished! (2)

Today I’m sharing with you a bathroom remodel!! This guest bathroom is actually at my Parents’ house… they did all of the work themselves.

The new faucet was off the rack. It wasn’t top quality, and therefore lower priced. I also found it on sale at Home Depot The pull out mirror was about $5 at Ikea , and the medicine cabinet hinges were off-the-rack hardware store purchases, that just happened to match the originals! I found the light fixture on clearance at Restoration Hardware , and was able to get it for a very reasonable price. It pays to keep an eye on sales, and not be too picky!

This was an instructional video for a DIY wainscoting project. This was another option we considered. We decided we preferred a different look for our project, but some may find this to their liking. We weren’t sure about our ability …

$20,000 For A Home Remodel, What Would You Spend It On?

We bought an old farmhouse. It was not in good shape. The house needed remodeling. We had to tear out the old bathroom because the placement of it was in the way of building better staircases. The staircases going to the basement and the second floor. The stairs in this house were like ladders, not stairs.

We spend much of our time in our bathroom and it should be a place free of obstacles and clutter as it can be the most dangerous room in the house. Keeping it clutter free and organized will help you start your day with the right mindset and focused on the tasks ahead at work. Just because your bathroom is small doesn’t mean it can’t look custom designed.
