Weekend Bathroom Remodel Part 1

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term DIY, it is actually an acronym for Do It Yourself…and this tiny acronym has taken the country by storm!

Porcelain is also a popular option for bathroom sinks , though it proved prone to chipping in our tests. Enamel-on-steel sinks were especially durable and stain-resistant, as were stainless steel sinks, which are becoming more popular for use in bathrooms. Solid-surface sinks are another durable option that allows the sink to be integrated with the vanity countertop and, if you like, the adjoining cove or backsplash.

Although my wanderlust has since widened my travel goals, I hadn’t fully appreciated the limitations of the 40 year old tin and birch veneer charmer. After three years of camping within a 4-hour secondary road circumference, buying glaciers-worth of cube ices for a minuscule icebox and keeping fingers crossed against salmonella, I was willing to admit that some modern amenities packaged in heavy duty highway-compatible sheet metal were well worth consideration. And with family spread across the country from Florida to Oregon, it was frustrating that my travel trailer couldn’t travel far from home without taking a sabbatical.

Just because your stove is in a certain place does not mean it has to remain there. Consider the traffic patterns when contemplating rearranging your kitchen appliances. Not everyone uses their kitchen the same way, therefore it is essential to place the sink, fridge and range where it works most efficiently for you. Also, be sure to consider your budget since rearranging plumbing and appliances could put a dent into what you are spending.

As I said earlier creativity makes the most out of your budget. Most of the furniture I had was reused. Still there were some items we purchased. For head and foot boards we scoured stores online. Finding nothing my husband and I could agree on we hit consignment stores and garage sales. The headboard was located at a garage sale. When you are looking at garage sales and consignment stores make sure you have measurements with you so you can act without regrets. Other stores we visited were Cost Plus, Pier One Imports, Macy’s and Ross.
